Hi Simeon
Have a listen to the podcast. I discuss tips for employers to know how to keep their employees engaged.

Regarding your question, "how to make it with nothing"
Your desire must outweigh your circumstance. There are always solutions. Focus on what you do have and what you can do with it, and let your desire outweigh whatever circumstance you have.

Debbie,

If more money were the secret to job success and retention, then all employers would pay more money and reap the rewards of increased job performance and retention. However, we know it doesn't except at the CEO level, not.

Employers keep hiring the wrong people to be their managers and then they wonder why they have so few successful, long-term engaged employees.

Successful employees have all three of the following success predictors while unsuccessful employee lack one or two and usually it is Job Talent that they lack.
I. Competence
II. Cultural Fit
III. Job Talent

Bob, you made an important distinction - employers hiring the wrong people to be their managers. This is a big factor in disengagement. Employers should be looking for "leaders" not "managers" to lead their teams to success. Employees today do not want to be micro managed. They want to learn, grow, feel valued and be a part of something meaningful. Companies that recognize and provide this by putting the right leaders in place, will naturally have a more engaged workforce.
