Have Your "Thoughts" Stopped You From Becoming an Entrepreneur?

WE ALL HAVE WORD TRACKS that go through our mind on a constant basis. Unless we have an awareness, most don’t even realize those word tracks are there, or, how they hold them back from reaching their goals.

Think for a moment about the dreams and goals you have for your life. Perhaps deep down you have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. But when you take the time to reflect about the word tracks you have in your mind, these are the type of messages you are telling yourself.

  • The timing isn’t right
  • I have too many expenses
  • I want to have kids
  • The kids are too young
  • The kids need money for college
  • I don’t have the money now
  • I don’t have the experience
  • I’m too busy
The list goes on and on. If these are the type of word tracks that are playing over and over in your mind, you will never take the step to become an entrepreneur and will find yourself going through life with regrets. Nothing will change until you change the word tracks to support what you truly want in life. All of these can be used as an excuse not to take action, or, the REASON you DO take action.

Change the word tracks in your mind – for instance, instead of saying “I can’t because”, change it to “I live purposely with no regrets”, or, “I always find a solution”. These are more powerful word tracks to check your decisions against. Create a word track that resonates with you and empowers you to take action.

The next step is making decisions that support your word tracks. Let’s say a business opportunity comes up for you, and your immediate thought (which is your default) is to say “It sounds perfect, but the timing isn’t right….I have too many expenses”. Catch yourself in that moment and change your word track to “It sounds perfect, and I will find the solution to move forward”. You may not know what the solution is, but in a case like that you are either more committed to your expenses, or more committed to your goals. It is a choice. You may need to “re-prioritize” your capital or take out a loan or line of credit. Bottom line, is don’t buy your own excuses. Find a solution. There is always a solution if you want something bad enough.

Understand, there is never going to be a perfect time. We get through one challenge and there is something else that comes up that can be used as an excuse. This is why people often go through their lives wanting but never doing. That is a recipe for having regrets.

How bad do you want it. How tired are you of working for someone else? How much do you want this change? How would it positively change your life? Start asking yourself better questions, and you will find better solutions. You can make it happen….follow your heart, and be willing to step out of your comfort zone and do what it takes.
